20 days to answer creditor? Do not ignore the summons; hoping that it'll go away. It will not! You should consider contacting an experienced collections attorney. If you were served a summons by the court, then you have 20 days to answer the summons. The summons should give you some additional information on how to answer the summons. Before answering the summons, you should verify if you have any absolute defenses, such as the statute of limitations. The summons should be attached with additional documentation support the claims. Read this documentation carefully. Is the documentation just a printout of transactions? Does the documentation include the original contract with your signature? What will debt collectors do in 2009 given the current economic

A debt collector discloses to a third party (a neighbor or
relative) that you have a debt. This is a violation of the
Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). A collector, by
law, is NOT allowed to do this.
A debt collector IS allowed to make one reasonable phone call to a

Bank, along with about $6,000 in interest and attorney's
