What is a scavenger debt collector?

8/6/2008 2:24:59 PM

A scavenger debt collector is a company that has purchased your debt from a collection agency that was not successful in the process of retrieving the debt, because the debt was uncollectible or the time for collection of the debt has expired due to the rules of the statue of limitations. Another name for the these companies are investment firms that purchase your debts from collection agencies at a minuscule amount. Some of the tactics that these investment firms use to intimidate you in paying off your debt are assertive and obtrusive, which violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act(FDCPA).
